Good teamwork starts and ends with trust. Without trust, I don’t say what I really think and hold back. I don’t dare to think outside of the box, take action and give my opinion. Allow me to show my true self and expose my vulnerability. Because before I know it, something is being used against me. They make nasty comments or jokes about me. Something I tell or show in confidence gets shared with other people or departments, without my knowledge or permission. I am no fool! The basic prerequisite for good cooperation is a culture of security and trust. Only then people can think innovatively, take responsibility and demonstrate initiative. This calls for a guarantee that mistakes will be accepted, taking the initiative is encouraged and deviating from the norm is seen as refreshing rather than a threat.
